GEORGIAN 1714 - 1837

Regency

Regency is the term generally accepted to denote the period 1811 – 1830 when George, Prince of Wales, acted as Regent for his father George III and then his own reign as King George IV. Particularly characteristic of Regency design is the development of the seaside town; Brighton was regarded as the most fashionable town of the era. The cottage orné was another reflection of the taste for Regency style. This was the culmination of a romantic belief in the rustic countryside where charming picturesque thatched dwellings with flower gardens represented an ideal world.
