GEORGIAN 1714 - 1837
The Gothick style which originated in England was loosely based on a revival of the Gothic architectural style, exemplified by the pointed arch, the rib vault and the flying buttress. Gothick, as an exotic revival style, was particularly popular for castles, country houses, public buildings and churches though it featured in designed landscapes too. The style is strongly associated with Horace Walpole’s Strawberry Hill (1750-70) and in Ireland a good example is Castle Ward County Down.
