GEORGIAN 1714 - 1837

The Georgian period began when George I came to the throne and concluded when Queen Victoria succeeded in 1837. The intervening monarchs were George II/ III/ IV and William IV. This period produced some of the most elegant and harmonious architecture in England and Ireland. The squares and crescents of Dublin, Edinburgh and Bath are a continuing testament to the architecture of the period as well as fine houses like Castle Coole, County Fermanagh, and Castle Ward, County Down. In Ulster, particularly in Armagh City and Belfast, there are many well proportioned and attractive terraces, public and private buildings erected during this period.
