Inner City living

As the suburbs encroached on the green areas around towns, some architects and planners looked to the older buildings located in the centre. Many of these buildings had lost their former uses, factories lay vacant, warehouses were no longer used and people no longer lived in the core of the town. Reuse of these buildings as living accommodation regenerate town centres and Living over the Shop (L.O.T.S.) is being promoted in Lisburn and Derry as part of the Heritage Lottery Fund’s Townscape Heritage Initiative.
